history

the boring, stinky history of blimpage.com.

ah, the internet. a marvellous invention, making limitless information available at the touch of a button. connecting people all over the world, bringing cultures closer together, helping to bring mankind closer to understanding one another.
and a crapload of shitty homepages.

so it started back in 2001, when i was bored outta my mind, and creating a website was all the rage (not). so, seeing as i had ten minutes and no money, i went to angelfire, created an account, and made my own website. it's long gone now, but i can assure you, it was nauseating. if memory serves, it had a yellowy-orange background, and reddy-orange text (coincidentally, orange is my favourite colour). it was called "thugz' home page", since "thugz'" was one of my nicknames at the time. keep in mind, i was new to the world, and thought that "thugz'" still meant "thug: one who is big and menacing", and not "12-year-old rapper". luckily, angelfire picked up on what my name obviously meant, and gave me some way cool p-diddy banner ads. anyway, the site was just one or two pages of text. no images, no flash. just orange.

later in 2001, i got flash. i started making random animations with it, but nothing great. suddenly, i thought, "hey, i could make a whole website just using flash! it'd be all dynamic and colourful, and i wouldn't have to write any HTML, or much actual content!". so, i got started on that. unfortunately, i never got finished on that. i had like, two pages of stuff - an intro page and a menu, if i remember correctly. no actual content. there were links to content, but they didn't go anywhere. convenient, eh? this site was on a different host, freehomepages. bored yet?

that last website lasted until about halfway through 2002, at which point i decided i'd try to find a free host with little-to-no ads. so i found freewebs, not that you care. i put up a new site under the same name at this address, and that sucked. it never really saw the light of day. but that's okay, seeing as nobody went to my sites. ever.

even later in 2002, i made some friends on the internet, and a guy who owned a site by the name of retrosoft (now nonexistent) offered to host my site on his webspace, free of charge, and free of ads. so that was cool. i gave my site a new design, and chucked the piece of crap up. around this time, i actually got some content on my site. it had game reviews by my good friend matt, and some other random stuff that didn't make much sense. it was mainly focussed around showcasing my animations, which were almost good by this point.

unfortunately, towards the end of 2002, the owner of retrosoft disappeared. (i've never spoken to him since, but word on the street is he's a station rat.) so since he wasn't paying his bills anymore, my hosting was gone. luckily, i had more friends, and one of them offered me some space on his site. i accepted, but this time, i vowed that things would be different. my site would actually look good, and have content, and i'd make good animations. most of all, i'd change the god-awful name of my site. and so things were set in motion, and on january 1st, 2003, suzuki cramming method was launched.

while this site was up, i actually started to get traffic! the reason why was obvious - i'd made blimpage 1, and submitted it to newgrounds.com, and people liked it. so, they were coming to my site. it was great. people actually looked at my crap. i felt special. the site was up for about six months, and actually drew some decent traffic and attention.

but guess what? it happened again. the hosting fell through, and i was left without a website for a while. so i thought, "this keeps happening. people offer me hosting, and then it falls through. i need something permanent." and suddenly, it hit me. i could stop being a lousy cheapskate, and actually pay for my own hosting! ...or at least get my dad to pay for it.

so, since blimpage was the main feature of my site, i figured, why not base the site around blimpage, and call it - that's right - blimpage.com? so it was done, and it was good. in august 2003, blimpage.com was launched. since then, it's been getting a whole bunch of hits and stuff! i don't know what it all means, but i think it's good, jerry!

anyway, due to the reliability of the company which hosts me, the whole site got deleted early in 2005. i figured this was a sign that the site needed a new design (again). i also figured this was a sign that the site should no longer mainly showcase blimpage, but rather, the finest of my works, blimpage or no. and so, the new and improved (paradox) blimpage.com comes to life!

conclusion.
